In our Sunday service time we have been doing a series entitled “Fixer Upper”. So I found it Delightful that the Lord would call me back to this Art piece. This is quite the “fixer upper” (smile).
Let me explain to you all; when I paint it is not merely for the delight of painting. When I paint the Lord speaks a word through my paintings. Very often when He gives me the word to a painting, I find myself on my face in awe and wonder. This is one of those times and one of those paintings.
This painting was done in 2002 yet speaks volumes in this “Fixer Upper Series”. So journey with me through this word.
When we accept the call of the Lord, we open our hearts to allow Him to dwell within. His Holy Spirit comes to reside in our very being. There is wonder working power in that very statement. When we accept the call of the Lord we step out of a separated, sinful, broken state of being. We then step into a new regenerative process. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come”!
Although the above clearly is a fixer upper, it is a different message than you might think. Restoration yes, but restoration to the ancient paths, a place we should desire to live.
Jeremiah 6:16 “Thus says the LORD, “Standby the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.”
What are the ancient paths you may ask. They are the paths of our destiny and how we are called to live. The Lord has called each of us, because He loves us tremendously, and deeply. He calls us out from the world to live set apart, as a holy people. He calls us because He has a destiny and a purpose in how we ought to live. This Art piece is that call.
This is the word for “Return To The Ancient Paths” A brisk autumn afternoon, the winds of change have blown most of the leaves from the tree now. The American flag blows all tattered and torn. Her once splendid glory now faded.
Let me pause here and put some symbolism in place, for you all.
- Wind= is a representation of change
- The American Flag= is a Representation of Freedom, vigilance, and perseverance. Traits that make us a nation of recognition.
- A path= is commonly symbolic of life, a stone path represents a life of mishaps. Many of our lives are full of mishaps.
- The old well= significant of a the Living Word of God, and also doctrine from the Word, consequently also truth itself; and from the signification of water, as being truth. John 4: 13 “Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” In yet another passage Genesis 26:17 Issac is called to dig up the old wells. Very significant in this Art Piece of reviving the flow of God’s word.
America in her spender, was once a nation that all others looked to with hope and anticipation. For we were a nation who stood on the principals of God’s word, and we were richly blessed for it. I feel we have lost much of that. The very freedoms that many fought and died for are now a mockery. BUT… That mockery is because we have forgotten the principals and the paths that we need to follow in order to be blessed; those very principals lined up all throughout the word of God. Those principals are the very reason for this Art Piece. A reminder and call to “return to the ancient paths.”
Romans 15:4 “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope”. That we might have HOPE? This verse in Romans is a reminder that the ancient paths are deeply beneficial.
Let me interject a moment here; throughout this year the winds have been blowing. Many comment of the strange weather. I firmly believe as God speaks in His word he also speaks in the natural. The winds of change are blowing, that ancient paths are beckoning in our very being. Calling in each of us to return.
This Sunday series “Fixer Upper” says much to me in a very simply metaphorical sense. Take note of your temple, some restoration is in order. A path to our destiny lies in the return; to Gods ways, Gods agenda, and Gods plan, all perfectly fit for us.
The call is not just found in the ancient paths, but also in the old wells that need dug again. The wells that are fresh with living water, fresh with the very word above that say’s drink from this well and you will never thirst again!
The reference from Jeremiah 6, that is a hard reminder, because the rest of the chapter says what happens when we do not walk in the ways of the Lord. PEOPLE I see evidence here in America all around us, we have strayed from the ancient paths.
It truly is time to RETURN! I seriously could say so much more, but we have heard it. The responsibility is ours. We are so richly blessed, and yet we have blinders on.
RETURN TO THE ANCIENT PATH’S; yes I’m yelling… It is a plea of my heart, written to myself, and beckoning to all of you.
